How is my trip protected?
We get it, you want to know your hard-earned money is safe when booking any trip. How you book your trip will determine the level of financial protection and it's important to know what is actually covered by the protection schemes.
We will always be clear about the type of trip you are booking and how it is protected.
ATOL (Air Travel Organisers Licensing) protection applies to package holiday bookings involving flights. It does not apply to flight-only bookings. ATOL cover means you are protected if a travel supplier goes bust. It is not a substitute for travel insurance as it does not cover flight cancellations, delays, medical issues, lost baggage etc.
ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) protection applies to bookings not involving flights, e.g. coach, rail and cruise holidays without flights. ABTA cover means you are protected if a travel supplier goes bust.
"Section 75"
Section 75 of the UK's Consumer Credit Act 1974 covers all purchases using a personal credit card between £100 - £30,000. Your money is legally protected if a supplier goes bust. This is applicable to package holidays as well as separate bookings like flight-only or accommodation-only purchases.
"Chargeback"
Chargeback is a voluntary scheme which protects purchases of any amount made by debit card or credit card. Whilst not legally binding, it is offered by all major UK banks and protects your purchase if a supplier goes bust.
Booking a package holiday...
You have ATOL or ABTA cover provided by the travel company. This protects you if a travel supplier goes bust. You also have Section 75 or Chargeback protection if you pay with a credit or debit card. All other eventualities should be covered by your travel insurance.
Booking parts of your trip separately...
A truly bespoke trip may require elements of your trip to be booked separately.
In some circumstances you may not have ATOL or ABTA cover, but you still have financial protection from Section 75 or Chargeback when you pay using a credit or debit card. All other eventualities should be covered by your travel insurance - we are happy to help.

Package holiday
Put simply, a package is created when at least 2 services (e.g. flights, hotels, car rental etc) are combined and purchased from the same company in a single transaction. They are covered by the Package Travel Regulations.
Insurance
We strongly advise getting suitable travel insurance as soon as you make your booking(s). It can safeguard your money if you have to cancel a trip due to unforeseen events or if you require overseas medical treatment.
